1 Killed and 2 Injured in Car Accident on Highway 99 near Florin Road in Sacramento
Sacramento, California (May 15, 2021) – One person was killed and two others were injured in a multi-vehicle collision in Sacramento on Saturday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened at about 1:49 a.m. on Highway 99 near Florin Road.
A 19-year-old man was driving a Chevrolet Silverado northbound on Highway 99 when he swerved to avoid traffic and swerved off the roadway.
The vehicle then swerved back onto the roadway and crashed into a concrete center divider, ejecting a passenger.
A Honda Odyssey that was traveling northbound on Highway 99 collided with the stopped Silverado.
A short time later, a Nissan Murano that was traveling in the fast lane swerved to avoid hitting the vehicles and struck the ejected passenger.
The 31-year-old driver of the Honda was killed in the accident.
The passenger who was run over by the Nissan was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The Chevrolet driver was transported to an area hospital with moderate injuries. He was later arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
No additional information about the accident was provided.
The CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
