One Person Dies in Chico Collision on SR-99 near Hamilton Nord Cana Hwy
Chico, California (March 15, 2020) – A deadly head-on collision left one person dead and two others injured in Chico on Saturday afternoon, the California Highway Patrol said.
The fatal incident occurred at about 12 p.m. March 14, on SR-99, south of the Hamilton Nord Cana Hwy.
CHP said a black Toyota 4Runner traveling southbound on SR 99 swerved into the northbound side and nearly collided with a semi truck. The car moved back into its lane but went into the shoulder. The driver then over-corrected and went across the southbound lane into the northbound side, crashing into an oncoming white Toyota Camry.
The 4Runner rolled onto its side while the Camry came to rest upside down.
The Camry’s driver was killed in the accident.
The driver of the 4Runner and a passenger in the vehicle sustained major injuries and were both transported to Enloe Hospital for treatment.
The identities of the involved parties were not immediately released.
CHP said alcohol and drugs did not appear to have played a role in the crash.
The CHP is investigating the collision.
