2 Injured, 1 Arrested in La Mesa Collision on Interstate 8 near Baltimore Drive
La Mesa, California (May 22, 2020) – Authorities are investigating a suspected DUI accident that left two people injured on Thursday morning in La Mesa, according to authorities.
At about 12:10 a.m., on May 21, the California Highway Patrol responded to the crash on eastbound Interstate 8, near Baltimore Drive.
The police said a 2009 Cadillac CTS, operated by Stephen Briseno, 24, of El Cajon, was traveling in the No. 2 lane of the interstate when it rear-ended a 2017 Honda Civic.
The Honda, an Uber vehicle, reportedly overturned as a result of the collision.
Following the accident, a 36-year-old man, the Honda driver was transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital with major injuries.
A 22-year-old woman, the Honda passenger, was also taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. She was not wearing the seat belt at the time of the crash, said the police.
Briseno was uninjured in the accident. He was the only occupant in the Cadillac.
Briseno was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, causing injuries, and booked into San Diego County Jail.
An investigation into the crash is underway.
