Joel Harrison Identified as Man Killed in Mendocino County Motorcycle Accident at Highway 20 and Marina Drive
Mendocino County, California (February 3, 2019) – The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man who was killed in a motorcycle accident Thursday evening at a Mendocino County intersection as Joel Harrison, 62, of Redwood Valley.
The fatal accident occurred a while before 5:00 p.m. January 31, at Highway 20 and Marina Drive, near Lake Mendocino.
According to the CHP, Harrison was riding a 2004 Harley Davidson westbound in the eastbound lanes of the highway when his motorcycle collided head-on with an oncoming silver 2018 Toyota Camry driven by Kathryn Lanier-Smith, 37, of Lakeport. A white 2001 Chevrolet Colorado which was traveling behind the Camry swerved in an attempt to avoid the collision but ended up hitting the front of the Camry.
Harrison was declared dead at the scene.
Lanier-Smith was taken to Adventist Health Ukiah Valley with moderate injuries.
The Chevrolet driver was uninjured in the crash.
The CHP is conducting the investigation.
