Paula Matos ID’d as Woman Killed in Modesto Pedestrian Accident on Standiford Avenue near Polaris Street
Modesto, California (February 12, 2019) – The woman who was struck and killed by a car Monday morning in north Modesto has been identified as Paula Matos,76, of Modesto, according to the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office.
The deadly accident occurred at about 9:00 a.m. February 11, on Standiford Avenue near Polaris Street.
Police said Matos was driving a Chevrolet Malibu eastbound when she pulled over to the right side of the roadway for an unknown reason and got out of her vehicle.
An oncoming motorist saw Matos and moved over, but a Nissan Rogue driver struck her, while she was standing next to her car’s open front door.
Matos was killed in the accident.
The police are investigating the crash.

The California law requires motorists to slow down to give the right of way to pedestrians in either marked or unmarked crosswalks. In the ongoing investigation, officials will check the involved vehicle for system failure or mechanical issues and analyze the photos taken at the crash site.
