Pedestrian Killed in Collision at Brand Boulevard and Maple Street in Glendale

Glendale, California (September 18, 2020) – The Glendale Police Department responded to a fatal pedestrian accident that happened on Thursday night in Glendale.

The collision happened at around 8 p.m. on September 17, in the area of Brand Boulevard and Maple Street.

According to the police report, Akop Daniyelyan, 32, of Los Angeles, was driving a car at a high rate of speed and was trying to pass a slow-moving vehicle in front of him.

Daniyelyan collided with another fast-moving vehicle driven by Alejandro Garcia, 27, of Los Angeles.

The impact of the crash caused both vehicles to spin out of control, hitting an unoccupied truck and a tree before striking a pedestrian.

The male pedestrian in his 60s was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Sadly, he later succumbed to his injuries.

Daniyelyan was determined to have been driving under the influence and was arrested.

Garcia was also arrested and booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and reckless driving, causing bodily injury.

The identity of the deceased was not disclosed pending notification of his next of kin.

The accident remains under investigation.
