Solvang Resident Pierre Josefsohn Killed in Santa Ynez Valley Plane Crash
Santa Ynez Valley, California (May 17, 2019) – A pilot died after his plane crashed near Figueroa Mountain Wednesday in Santa Ynez Valley.
According to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department, the pilot was Pierre Josefsohn, of Solvang.
Authorities said Josefsohn left Santa Ynez Airport Wednesday afternoon in his 2006 single-engine Aviat for a flight around the area. His family reported to authorities after he failed to return.
A tracking system on his plane indicated it was about two miles south of Ranger Peak.
Sheriff’s dispatched a helicopter to search for the plane, but the search was suspended due to foggy weather.
On Thursday morning, a Search and Rescue Team began searching by foot and located the plane on the side of a steep hillside called Goat Rock.
Josefson’s body was found inside the plane.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash.
