Tigran Garabedyan ID’d as Pilot Killed in Plane Crash in Santa Barbara
Orcutt, California (May 21, 2020) – The authorities have disclosed the identity of a pilot who died after a plane crashed into an empty Orcutt schoolyard on Wednesday morning.
The plane reportedly crashed into the playground at Ralph Dunlap Elementary School, 1220 Oak Knoll Road, at about 10:45 a.m. May 20.
The pilot, who was the only occupant in the plane, was killed in the crash.
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department Coroner’s Bureau identified the pilot as Tigran Garabedyan, 38, of Burbank.
The plane, a Cirrus SR20 single-engine aircraft, is registered in Newport Beach.
The police said the plane had departed Van Nuys Airport en route to the Santa Maria Public Airport.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the circumstances that led to the crash.
