Nicole Marks Killed, Connie Howard Arrested after Car Crashes Into Apartment Building in Los Angeles
Los Angeles, California (July 12, 2019) – Authorities have arrested 59-year-old Connie Jo Howard in connection with an alleged DUI collision that claimed one life last week Wednesday in the area of Broadway-Manchester, South Los Angeles.
As per the California Highway Patrol, the deadly crash occurred a while after 5:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 3 in the 8700 block of North Main Street near 87th Place and Manchester Avenue.
Officials said that Howard was driving a white sedan at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the corner of a four-story apartment building. The impact caused the wall of the building to dislodge into a bedroom where 44-year-old Nicole Marks and her daughter, a 4-year-old girl, were sleeping.
The sedan burst into flames following the crash.
Responding emergency crews pronounced Marks dead at the scene. The girl was transported to the hospital where she was listed in a stable condition.
The name of the girl was not immediately known.
Howard and her 55-year-old male passenger suffered injuries of unknown degree and were transported to a hospital.
Howard was later arrested and was scheduled to be arraigned at the Compton courthouse on one count each of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage causing injury and driving with a 0.08 percent blood alcohol content causing injury. His bail was set at $100,000.
An investigation is ongoing.
