Driver Killed in Highway 101 Rollover Crash in Santa Rosa

Santa Rosa, California (March 21, 2019) – One person died in a suspected DUI collision that happened Wednesday night on Highway 101 in Santa Rosa, a local news source reported.

The accident happened just before 11 p.m. on the southbound lanes of the highway south of River Road.

A blue Honda Civic rolled over after being rear-ended by a silver Ford Fusion.

Initial reports indicated that 31-year-old Fernando Aguilera, of Santa Rosa, was driving the Ford southbound on Highway 101 when he approached the Honda which was driving slower. For unknown reasons, the front of the Ford collided with the rear of the Honda causing it to leave the roadway.

The Honda crashed into a guardrail and rolled before colliding with a perimeter fence and a tree.

California Highway Patrol officers and Santa Rosa firefighters responded to the scene and pronounced the driver of the Honda dead at the scene.

Officers arrested Aguilera and booked him into Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of homicide, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, felony DUI and felony DUI above the legal limit. According to jail records, the suspect had been convicted of DUI twice before.

Officers are investigating the collision.
