Man and Unborn Child Killed in Yuba City Accident on Highway 20 near Wadsworth Canal Bridge
Sutter County, California (July 6, 2023) – A man and unborn child sustained fatal injuries in a crash involving several vehicles Wednesday morning in Yuba City.
The fatality was reported on Highway 20 near the Wadsworth Canal Bridge at around 8:30 a.m. July 5.
Authorities said a 30-year-old man and a pregnant woman in the passenger seat drove an eastbound Nissan Versa.
His vehicle drifted into the opposite lanes and collided with a westbound Chevy Tahoe driven by a woman.
A westbound Ford F-150 hauling a dump trailer rear-ended the Tahoe after the initial collision.
The Nissan driver and the passenger were trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated.
The Nissan driver was airlifted to Sutter Roseville Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The pregnant woman was also airlifted to Adventist Health Rideout, where her unborn child was pronounced dead. A dog in the car died at Northpointe Animal Hospital.
The driver of the Chevy suffered minor injuries in the accident, while the driver of the Ford was unhurt.
Alcohol was ruled out as a factor in the accident.
