1 Killed, Timothy Johnston Arrested after Fatal Highland Crash at Palm and Nona Avenues
Highland, California (July 11, 2019) – Authorities have arrested 25-year-old Timothy Johnston in connection with a deadly collision that happened on Friday morning last week in the area of Highland.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at about 6:30 a.m. Friday, July 5, at Palm and Nona avenues.
Authorities said the Sheriff’s deputies in San Bernardino tried to pull over a BMW sedan, believed to be stolen, on Palm Avenue when Johnston, the driver, sped away north on Palm near 3rd Street. Officials then chased the suspect and the pursuit reached Highland City.
On reaching the intersection, Johnston lost control of the car and finally collided with a Toyota Tundra before slamming into a power pole.
The impact caused the BMW to flip on its roof pinning a female party inside. Responding firefighters extricated the victim before transporting her to the hospital where she later died. Her name was not immediately available awaiting notification of next of kin.
It remained unclear if the persons occupying the Tundra suffered injuries in the collision.
Officials confirmed that Timothy hid in a nearby neighborhood where he was located and arrested. He was transported to the hospital for treatment and was later booked to county jail. He was facing charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, evading a peace officer, vehicular manslaughter and gross negligence, burglary, and an unrelated warrant.
