A recent criminal pursuit led to several car accidents in Southern California in recent days. A man who was suspected of being involved in a drive by shooting which took place last week was involved in a police chase down highway 92 until his car was disabled and he was forced to surrender. In the process of the chase, the suspect apparently hit and damaged multiple vehicles in his attempt to escape police custody. His attempts were futile, however, as the chase ended with the suspect locked in a disabled Mecedes Benz and ultimately being arrested and taken in to custody.
The low speed chase initially began after police attempted to perform a routine traffic stop on the suspect. The suspect allegedly refused to stop for police, which caused the police to run his vehicle information and description. The police then discovered that the drive’s description and vehicle information matched the description of a suspect who was wanted for attempted murder during a drive by incident. The officer who began the low speed chase the called for back up, and an official pursuit began. The pursuit lasted for hours and received media coverage as the suspect continued to run.
The suspect attempt to escape was ruined by the disabling of his vehicle by the LAPD. Shortly after the chase began, officers closed off the highway and placed tools that would destroy the suspect’s tires on the ground. Later, when the suspect finally drove over the trap, his tires were completely destroyed and torn from his vehicle. This did not stop him, however. The suspect merely slowed his speed and kept driving with nothing but metal rims attached to his car. He was only brought to a complete stop by the fact that the metal was catching fire through its contact with the concrete road.
