40-Year-Old Downy Man Killed by Street Racers

Two alleged street racers were arrested in Downey, California this February. Their bookings were the result of the killing of a 40-year-old pedestrian man. The 20-year-old South Gate suspect, alongside his 34-year-old Downy companion, were both charged with vehicular manslaughter.

According to responding authorities, the fatality took place on the intersection of Bellflower Boulevard and Imperial Highway. And the time of the incident was close to 8:40pm. It is here that both a gray Hyundai Tiburon and black BMW 328i were found street racing. The racing resulted in multiple vehicular collisions. Authorities concluded that the two vehicles were speeding up to 100 mph, before ascending on Bellflower Boulevard. Just as a Nissan Altima proceeded to turn left on the boulevard, the black BMW hit the turning vehicle. As for the Hyundai, the driver managed to void the Nissan by steering into the street’s divider. Nonetheless, the passengers of the Nissan consisted of three, all of which thrown erratically in the car until it stopped onto a nearby sidewalk.

It was also on a sidewalk where the 40-year-old victim found himself struck by the careening BMW. At the time of the crash he was standing on the corner as a witness. According to reports, the BMW’s impact lifted him almost 50 feet across the street. Another witness to the crash immediately ran to the man’s aide, only to find him dead.

The three passengers of the Nissan Altima were all carried to the local hospital. All three suffered minimal injuries.
