Early in the morning April 28, shortly after midnight, a motorcycle crash on the southbound 14 freeway ramp killed the cycle’s driver. His identity was not released pending the notification of his next-of-kin. It was the Sand Canyon onramp, as reported by an article on KHTS AM-1220.
California Highway Patrol officers closed the area down in response, so officers could investigate the cause of the accident and clean up. The SigAlert was issued by CHP at 8:47 a.m. The investigation and clean-up were expected to take until 11 a.m. Until then, drivers should avoid that area.
Apparently, the driver used the ramp to get onto the highway, but his motorcycle hit a raised concrete block or curb. This knocked him off his motorcycle. Just seconds later, a big truck rig heading south on 14 struck the motorcycle. It’s not yet known whether the rig also hit the driver, or whether he was killed by the injuries sustained when thrown off his motorcycle. The driver was declared dead at the scene of the accident.
It’s not yet known whether or not drugs or alcohol were involved in the driver hitting the concrete curb, or whether he was wearing a safety helmet.
