A recent accident that took place in February involving an 18 wheeler left 3 people dead, according to local officials. The accident took place in Commerce, Ca on the 5 Freeway shortly after midnight. The drivers of two automobiles were apparently engaged in a street car race on the highway that led to this tragic accident. Witnesses say that one car that was involved in the race was traveling at an enormous speed when he noticed a slow moving vehicle ahead of him. The driver of racing vehicle then attempted to merge into the lane immediately to the right of him at the same time that the vehicle ahead of him was merging to the right lane (apparently in an effort to avoid the racing vehicle). The driver of the racing vehicle pressed hard on his breaks, causing him to lose control of his vehicle. The vehicle then spun and hit a large UPS 18 wheeler and caused the UPS truck to spin and crash into the highway median. The UPS truck’s collision with the median caused it to fly into the air and over the median where it landed in front of several cars and burst into flames after swiping the top off 5 passenger car while it was airborne. The driver of the UPS truck was pronounced dead on the scene, along with passengers from the cars that were hit by the truck. The racers were fine.
