Woman Killed, 4 Injured in Multi-Vehicle Collision on Route 44 in Pomfret

Pomfret, Connecticut (March 30, 2018) – A 46-year-old woman was killed, and four other people were injured Wednesday afternoon in a multi-car crash in Pomfret, according to a police report.

The collision took place shortly before 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 28 on Route 44.

According to the police report, a Honda Pilot driven by 50-year-old Artan Cela was traveling westbound on Route 44 while a Chevrolet Silverado driven by John Vinal, 56, of Eastford was going eastbound.

Artan attempted to pass a Lexus NX driven by Amber Morrone, 24, of West Hartford that was turning left onto Paine Road in a no passing zone and collided with John’s vehicle head-on.

Debbi Cela of Orchard Hill Road was a passenger in the Artan’s vehicle and was declared deceased at the scene. Artan was taken by an ambulance to Day Kimball Hospital with minor injuries.

John and his passenger, Nicholas Vinal, 22, of Eastford, and Morrone were transported to a hospital with minor injuries.

All three vehicles were towed from the scene.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
