Serious bicycle accidents are occurring more frequently in California than evr before. In 2014, California led the country with 338 bicycle fatalities. with Florida coming in a close second with 327 fatalities.

On April 15, 2016, three-year-old Isaac Stortz was hit and killed when a pick-up truck driven by 18-year-old Tyler Potter hit the bicycle carriage from behind. She was travelling 50-55 mph when she ran into Isaac who was attached to the bicycle his father Jonathon Stortz was riding. Both Isaac and Jonathon were airlifted to Community Medical Center in Fresno with serious injuries, and Tyler had no injuries. Little Isaac was pronounced dead on arrival.

The accident happened at approximately 8:15 pm on Hanford-Armona Road, just east of 16th Avenue according to the California Highway Patrol. Apparently, there was no alcohol or drugs involved, so Tyler, the driver of the truck, was not charged at the scene.

Jonathon was compliant with California Safety Laws with a headlight on the front of his bike and a reflector on the back of the trailer. Adam Baresi, Public Information Officer,
told the press that the investigating officer will ultimately decide if Tyler will reciene any citations.
