CLOVIS, California — One man was killed in an accident on Wednesday morning around 6:06 near Shaw and Highland.
The 49-year-old man Patrick TeNyenhuis was on his bicycle Wednesday morning when he was stuck by a car.
The Clovis Police Department determined that TeNyenhuis was hit while he was still in his bike lane on Shaw Avenue. Despite wearing a helmet, he was still killed.
John Weader, a Clovis Police Officer, has made a statement that the car struck the bicycle from behind while TeNyenhuis was still in his bike lane.
Police Department is still investigating how exactly the accident occurred and how the car ended up hitting TeNyenhuis while he was in his bike lane.
“Right now, we have both vehicles going in the same direction, so we essentially have a rear end accident…Part of the investigation is how did that vehicle get into the bicycle lane,” said Weader.
The driver of the car has not been charged and has been working with the police to help solve this problem.
Patrick TeNyenhuis was a father of two daughters and had a wife. He was a physical therapist and was also a bluegrass musician.
The Clovis Police asks all drivers to take caution on the road and share the road with cyclists.
