On Wednesday morning, local bluegrass musician Patrick TeNyenhuis was struck by a vehicle while bicycling on Shaw Avenue’s bike lane in Clovis, California. Even though TeNyenhuis was donning a helmet, he died at the accident site. He was only 49 years old. It is unknown how and why the accident happened.
“Right now we have both vehicles going in the same direction. So we essentially have a rear end accident. The complexity to it, is not only do you have a bicycle in a bicycle lane but you have a car that strikes him from behind in that bicycle lane. So part of the investigation is how did that vehicle get into the bicycle lane,” said Weader.
The Clovis police questioned the Toyota sedan driver who struck TeNyenhuis. So far, charges have not been filed to the nameless man.
Besides a musician, TeNyenuis routinely rode his bicycle early in the day and went to work as a physical therapist. His family is mourning the loss of him.
“We are mourning the loss of an amazing man. He was a wonderful son, husband, father, brother, and friend. We appreciate the kind thoughts and prayers of the Clovis community and ask for privacy as we grieve,” stated the family.
