37-Year-Old Man Killed in SUV crash in Los Angeles

Los Angeles, CA : A 37-year-old man was killed and 8 other people were injured when a minivan collided with an SUV in Los Angeles on April 17, 2016.

A minivan was driving through an intersection during a green light when it was slammed into by a vehicle that ran the opposing red light. Inside the minivan were three adults and four children. Authorities at the scene of the accident said that an SUV that was fleeing the scene of another accident ran the red light and plowed into the minivan.

When the minivan was struck by the SUV, it flipped over and injured four children and killed one 37 year-old man. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, eight people in total were hurt.

When the Toyota Sienna minivan was hit by the SUV, it flew into the air and landed hard upside-down. The minivan was badly crushed and multiple passengers actually were ejected from the vehicle. The impact was so significant all the children suffered injuries.

The accident occurred at around 11:40 in the morning, and police had to call in helicopters to the scene. Sgt. Frank Preciado was on the scene and reported that the man and woman inside the Toyota 4Runner SUV was racing at a high rate of speed to avoid arrest from a previous accident.

According to Sgt. Frank Preciado, several medic helicopters were on the scene to transport some of the children to local hospitals for a variety of serious injuries. Several ground ambulances were also at the scene of the accident to transport the rest of the accident victims to local emergency rooms.

According to police officers at the scene, an investigation is pending and it is not known as of today if alcohol or drugs played a part in both accidents
