A 37-year-old man died in a fatal car crash along Haskell Avenue in North Hills. Eight people were seriously wounded in the accident that happened on Sunday, April 17, 2016, at 11.39am. The incident took place in the 8700 street of Haskell Avenue and was reported on Sunday evening. Four kids were among those injured in the crash. Police reports indicate that the accident happened when a Toyota 4Runner SUV collided with a Toyota Sienna minivan. The minivan landed up-side-down after the crash while several passengers were ejected on impact from both vehicles. A woman in her 20s was driving the SUV and was fleeing from another scene of the accident. The dead man was driving his wife and children to a baby shower.
The four children who were injured in the accident were between 4 and 12 years. Three of the children were siblings while the fourth was a family friend. The children were all traveling in the minivan along with two adults. Three adults, a man, and two ladies were traveling in the Toyota SUV. Two children and dead man’s wife sustained serious injuries. The male and female passengers in the SUV were seriously injured as well. One of the passengers was ejected on impact. Some of the children were airlifted using a helicopter to the hospital while ground ambulances rushed the rest to emergency rooms.
Nabu Hernandez, a friend to family in the minivan, revealed that the family lives less than a block from where the accident occurred. Nabu’s wife was also supposed to attend the baby shower. He rushed to scene hoping to get some answers but was very confused by the turn of events. Police indicated that they were investigating the woman driving the SUV for drugs and alcohol. The woman could be charged with murder if she tests positive for either alcohol or drugs.
