A male motorcyclist died and a helicopter took the other two motorcyclists to a nearby hospital after colliding on Angeles Crest Highway on Friday.

A passerby reported the motorcycle head-on collision approximately 1:50p.m. about 2 ½ miles east of the intersection with Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Road close to mile marker 45.

According to the California Highway Patrol Office Chad Guin, a Caltrans worker was the first person on the accident scene.

Monica Lawson, a witness to the fatal crash, stated a motorcyclist headed towards incoming traffic to try to pass a moving car.

The driver of the motorcycle shortly collided with another motorcycle. Lawson and her husband stopped to help the accident victims with the medical kit they had in their car. However, the couple was not able to report the accident due to no cellphone service.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff Department stated, medics pronounced one of the motorcyclists dead on arrival while a medical helicopter flew the other two victims to a nearby hospital.
