A Fiery Big Rig Crash Leaves Three Dead

Los Angeles – Authorities say street racing may be what caused a fiery crash that killed three and shut down traffic on I-5 for several hours.

Up to eight vehicles were involved in the chain-reaction collision that happened East of Washington Boulevard just after midnight, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Witnesses say a Dodge Charger and a Dodge Challenger were spotted traveling at a high rate of speed in the southbound lane of I-5.

PCH Officer Doris Paniche who was one of the first on the scene spoke to KTLV. “The street-racers were darting in and out of traffic. One of the vehicles lost control and slammed into the UPS 18-wheeler, which in turn, crashed into the divider,” said Peniche.

The airborne semi hit a gray Nissan Sentra killing, the occupants. A Ford Explorer was also hit and caught fire. The driver of the UPS truck was killed.

One man was arrested and charged with suspicion of street racing. Felony vehicular manslaughter charges are likely, according to PCH. the other racer is still at large.
