San Fernando Valley – A woman and her daughter were both struck and killed by a motorist while walking in a crosswalk.
The women were identified as Pia Botz, 69, and her daughter, Erica Botz, 31. The dog that accompanied the women was also hit and later died.
The two women were walking their Labrador on Roscoe Boulevard in Western Hills and when a Subaru struck both women and the dog. The unidentified driver remained at the scene until officers arrived.
Several witnesses were attempting CPR on the women when officers arrived, according to LAPD Detective Bill Bustos.
Both women were transported to transported to the hospital where they later died.
Drugs and alcohol are not believed to have played a role in the accident. “Apparently the driver of the Subaru was being followed by his wife in another vehicle. It seems to be a tragic incident,” said Bustos.
Residents in the neighborhood have complained about poor lighting and believe it may have contributed to the accident.
Charges against the driver are pending.
