California Highway Patrol Motorcycle officer injured in Santa Ana.

A California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer was heading towards the scene of an accident when his motorcycle ran into a Honda Sedan. The officer and a passenger from the Honda were injured in the collision and had to be hospitalized after the crash.

At around 1 pm, the highway patrol officer was driving his motorcycle with his sirens on going north on Grand Avenue. The Honda driver was driving on Grand Avenue as well, but in the opposite direction.

When the Honda driver turned left headed towards the 22 freeway causing the sedan to collide with the motorcycle. While the officer and the passenger were hospitalized, but did not have life-threatening injuries.

Ryan Chavez was a key witness at the point of the crash. He saw the accident and instantly reported the accident on Twitter. He stated that the officer ran through the light with his light’s flashing when he noticed a silver car in the intersection. The officer attempted to swerve, but he clipped the rear of the car.

Chavez reported that when the crash occurred, pieces of the motorcycle spread everywhere. The front wheel flew off, and the officer was thrown twenty feet. The officer was moving not long after the accident.

While there were witnesses to the accident, officers have not yet determined who was at fault or the speed of either vehicle.
