Two killed in fiery Christmas Day crash in Pacifica

Two people were killed in a fiery car crash on Dec. 25 when a wrong-way driver plowed into another vehicle on Highway 1 in Pacifica. Authorities were first notified of the collision at 2:39 a.m.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a Toyota Corolla was headed the wrong way on northbound Highway 1 when it smashed into an oncoming Nissan Maxima, which was driven by an Uber contractor.
The impact caused the Toyota to ignite, and the car’s driver was burned beyond recognition. A passenger in the Nissan suffered trauma from the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The male Uber driver was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
Authorities do not yet know if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. The northbound lanes of Highway 1 remained closed until 7 a.m. as authorities investigated the accident scene.
