Philip Ingram, a resident of Auburn, drove his white pickup truck under the influence of a drug that impaired his driving abilities. According to the California Highway Patrol, he was taken into custody due to charges of DUI although it was not known what kind of drug Ingram had consumed, warranting his arrest.
Ingram, a 62-year-old driver, hit two teenagers who were minding their own business and walking, heading north on Highway 49’s southbound side. The three teenage boys had positioned themselves away from the road when the truck hit two of them about 5:30 p.m. close to Highway 49 and Locksley Lane.
The boys’ skateboards, shoes, and a red baseball were scattered at the scene. The three teens are 15-years-old. They are students at Placer High School.
“The juveniles weren’t doing anything wrong. They were walking in a safe location,” CHP Officer David Martinez said. “The vehicle happened to drift over here and hit them.”
The truck did indeed hit the teens and then pulled over to the opposite side lane and stopped. One teen died on the spot while the second boy eventually followed suit at the hospital. The third boy was left unharmed.
