Teenagers live exciting lives. Every day is filled with hope and the opportunity to improve their lives. Unfortunately, teenage lives are often cut short by car accidents. Every year, this country lose many teenagers to accidents, and recently Murrieta lost a young woman to her own risky driving.

Summer Cabone was from Rialto and had an extremely bright future ahead of her. She was riding in a car with her 10-year-old sister, her mom, and her mother’s boyfriend. Her mother’s boyfriend was driving, and he was extremely tired. At some point on the morning of March 31st, he fell asleep at the wheel and drifted into a telephone pole going 45 mph. She was immediately severely injured. The driver, her mom, and her sister were also injured.

When authorities arrived on the scene, Summer was on the sidewalk, and they immediately sent her to Rancho Springs Medical Center. The medical staff put in their best effort, but ultimately declared her dead at 8:30, just an hour after the crash.

When the vehicle crashed, her mother, Rebekah Joy Davis, and her mother’s boyfriend were both in the front seat. The airbags deployed, which saved them from death, but did lead to multiple major injuries. They were sent to the hospital for an extended stay.

Summer’s 10-year-old sister was in critical condition when authorities arrived. Both Summer and her sister were not wearing a seat belt. Authorities believe that drug use was involved in the crash, and they plan on charging both adults in the case. So far no witnesses have come forward to aid the investigation, but officers are searching for potential witnesses for the upcoming trial.

Summer’s death is a tragic reminder of the impact that drugs have on our community. The Murrieta community is in a state of mourning after this wreck.
