A young man has been pronounced dead on site by police and ambulance units responding to what appeared to be a deadly street racing incident in San Bernardino, California. The 19 year old victim has not been identified but was thought to be behind the wheels of the Acura sedan that crashed into a utility pole, than a fire hydrant and finally ending up in a elementary school parking lot.

Witnesses say they recall a vehicle speeding by going from 60-80 miles per hour, and even possibly approaching 100 miles an hour in a zone where the speed limit is about 35 miles an hour. Another vehicle was also seen speeding and following closely behind. Camera footage confirms the story of witnesses and shows two vehicles speeding in what appears to be a street race on Ninth Street in San Bernardino.

The Acura sedan spun out of control while going at a high speed and knocked down a utility pool and then collided with a fire hydrant knocking it off as well. The force of impact with the fire hydrant was so great that the car was cut in half. A piece of the vehicle that was shorn landed in a nearby elementary school parking lot.

The incident took place at around 3:15 p.m., a time when elementary school students head home on buses. The elementary school was closed thankfully due to spring break. Police and neighbors say that had the incident occurred when school was in session the damage and death toll could have been much worse.

A local who witnessed the crash said that he rushed over to try and help the driver, but that the scene was awful. The car he describes was literally torn in half and smashed completely. Police say the driver died right away
