Good Samaritan Tries To Save Father and Son

In Escondido, California, a Good Samaritan attempted to rescue a man and a baby from a burning sports utility vehicle (SUV) in a area near Escondido, but he was only ably rescue the toddler, according to a California Highway Patrol officer.

A tree was smashed by the SUV and the SUV soon erupted into fire, close to the Beer Valley Road and the Berry Valley Highway, south of State Route 79 , about 8:50 am, as said by California Highway Patrol Officer Jim Bettencourt.

When he saw the SUV on fire, a 62 year-old Escondido man immediately stopped his vehicle and ran to rescue the 37 year-old SUV driver named Arthur Walker.

Bettencourt said that the Escondido man tried all he could to save the man, but when he realized that he could not rescue the man, he put his efforts into saving the 2 year-old boy. The man managed to get the child out of the car and tried to revive him by performing CPR.

The very young boy was brought to the Palomar Medical Center and died.

According to CHP, the people in the car were father and son.

Bettencourt said that the police were deeply sorry for what happened and the Good Samaritan saw something that they will probably never forget.

CHP does not know why the SUV veered off the road. Drugs and alcohol could have a played a part in the crash.
