Visalia is a wonderful and exciting community to live and work in, but recently this community was struck by tragedy. A major car crash happened in early February that left two dead, and the community permanently shaken.
At seven in the morning one day in early February, a young woman was driving her car down Caldwell Avenue in Visalia. Unfortunately, just as she was passing Pinkham Street her car collided with a GMC pickup truck in a head-on collision. Both parties were extremely injured in the crash.
Ambulances and police officers all responded to the scene as quickly as possible. When the arrived at the scene the woman was already dead. Police were able to identify the man as a 66 year-old man. His name was Cornelio Carrasco and he lived in Woodlake, a nearby community. He was in severe condition, so the police immediately sent him the Kaweah Delta Medical Center. The doctors at the hospital tried their best to save his life, but he was eventually pronounced dead.
Police currently do not know what caused the crash, because both witnesses were killed. The police plan to perform a complete investigation to determine the cause. The police were also unable to determine the identity of the woman or where she was headed before the crash. They plan to positively identify her, so they can notify the family of the tragic news.
This fatality shook the Visalia community because it happened early in the morning and it tragically cut these two lives short. Families were left with an empty spot at the table, and coworkers and other community members lost a friend.
Head-on collisions often lead to fatalities, and they can happen at any time. As people drive throughout town, they should try their best to stay in their lane and stay safe.
