Mellie Marell ID’d as Woman Killed in Holmes County Crash on Thomas drive near Hospital Drive

Mellie Marell Killed in 2-Vehicle Collision on Thomas drive near Hospital Drive in Holmes County
Holmes County, Florida (March 25, 2018) – The woman who was killed Saturday morning in a two-car crash in Holmes County has been identified as Mellie Marell, 85, of Bonifay, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
The incident took place on Thomas drive near Hospital Drive on Saturday, March 24.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 20-year-old Zachary Neitsch, a Holmes County sheriff deputy, was traveling westbound on Thomas drive with his emergency lights and siren activated on his marked patrol unit while Marell was driving a 2006 Volkswagen Passat and was turning left onto Hospital Drive from Thomas Drive.
Marell allegedly failed to yield the right of way, and Neitsch ’s patrol car hit the right front side of her Volkswagen Passat.
Marell was declared deceased at the scene.
Neitsch was transported to Doctors Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
