Irvine, CA: Man Shot and Killed By CHP police Officer

Irvine, California (October 11, 2016) – A Riverside family was asking for answers after a man was shot and killed by a California Highway Patrol officer on Monday.

Mauricio Barron, 27, was killed when an officer shot him following a confrontation on Interstate 5 Freeway.

Prior to the shooting, the Riverside had been running in the northbound lanes of the freeway at Barranca Parkway. As the man was crossing over to the southbound side of the freeway, he was struck by a vehicle. A fight then ensued and in the process, the CHP officer shot Barron.

Paramedics responded to the scene and transported Barron to Orange County Global Medical Center. Unfortunately, Barron succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The CHP officer has since been placed on an administrative leave and the Orange County District Attorney’s office is conducting an investigation into the accident.
