Girl Killed, Three People Injured in Two-Vehicle Collision at W. Empire Highway and Plowman Road in Leelanau County

Leelanau County, Michigan (April 3, 2018) – A 8-year-old girl was killed, and three other people were injured Saturday morning in a two-car accident in Leelanau County, according to authorities.

The incident happened just before 10:45 a.m. Saturday, March 31 at the intersection of M-72(W. Empire Highway) and Plowman Road.

According to police, a 22-year-old Lake Ann woman was driving a 2009 Toyota southbound on Plowman Road when she failed to stop for the stop sign at the intersection and was hit by an eastbound 2016 Ford van, driven by a 51-year-old Traverse City man.

The impact caused the Toyota to roll over into a large tree.

Both drivers were taken to Munson Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Two children were trapped in the Toyota.  Ava Geiger died from injuries sustained in the crash while a five-year-old girl was transported to Munson Medical Center with serious injuries.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
