Shandon, California(September 19, 2016) – A retired CHP officer was killed Saturday morning in a deadly head-on motorcycle verses car collision in Shandon, according to a police report.

The accident took place at about 9:50 a.m. between a 2014 Honda Goldwing and a 2015 Toyota Tacoma in the northbound lanes of Highway 41 near Cottonwood Pass.

George Lester, 63, was collided head-on with the Toyota Tacoma after the Toyota veered into his lane. Lester was northbound on Highway 41 at the time of the accident.

The two vehicles were going at 65 mph at the time of the accident. Lester died on the spot.

Fidencio Vidriales was behind the will the Toyota Tacoma.

Responding crews pronounced the retired Coastal CHP Division officer deceased at the scene of the accident.

As per the report, Vidriales suffered minor injuries in the crash and was airlifted to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The highway remained closed for the entire part of Saturday morning until 2 p.m. when it reopened.

Reportedly, George Lester was serving the San Luis Obispo as a commercial officer during his retirement. He had been on retirement for about 11 years.

The crash is under investigation.
