1 Killed, 1 Injured in 2-Vehicle Collision on State Route 17 in Chester

Chester, New York (April 3, 2018) – One person was killed, and another was injured Sunday evening in a two-car crash in Chester, according to State Police.

The fatal crash occurred just before 5:30 p.m. Sunday, April 1 on State Route 17.

The State Police reported that a Ford F250 was entering State Route 17 from off-ramp 126 when it started to accelerate in the driving lane in an attempt to overtake a vehicle in the passing lane.

The Ford then drifted into the passing lane and rear-ended a Toyota RAV 4.

The two occupants of the Ford were ejected by the impact.

The Ford’s driver, Steven Dauksza, 27, of Congers, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, Michelle Rodriguez, 27, of Congers, was taken to Orange Regional Medical Center with critical injuries.

No further information regarding the crash was immediately provided.

The accident is still under investigation at this time.
