Woman Killed, 8 Injured in Multi-Vehicle Collision on Island Expressway in Shirley
Shirley, New York (April 1, 2018) – A woman was killed and eight others were injured Saturday afternoon in a multi-vehicle collision in Shirley, according to authorities.
The deadly crash happened at around 3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 31 on the Island Expressway near Off-Ramp 68.
According to the authorities, 37-year-old Peter Visconti was driving a 2004 Ford pickup westbound when he crashed into a 2011 Honda minivan that was traveling the same direction.
The pickup then crossed over the median into the eastbound lanes and crashed into a motorcycle and a 2013 Toyota minivan.
The woman who was in the Toyota was declared dead at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital. Seven people from that vehicle were taken to hospitals.
Visconti was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
He was cited for reckless driving.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
