Four People Killed, One Injured in 2-Vehicle Collision on Highway 501 in Maxton

Maxton, North Carolina (March 31, 2018) – Four people were killed, and one other was injured Thursday night in a head-on collision in Maxton, according to North Carolina Highway Patrol.

The collision happened at around 8:03 p.m. Thursday, March 29 on Highway 501.

Troopers said 44-year-old Christopher Locklear was driving a Ford Mustang westbound on Highway 501 while a Kia was heading eastbound.

The Kia crossed the center line and struck the Mustang head-on. As a result of the collision, the Kia ran off the road, hit a ditch and caught fire.

Locklear died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The three people in the Kia were also killed.

A 44-year-old man from Marlboro County was a passenger in the Mustang and was flown to a hospital for his injuries.

No further information on accident was released.

An investigation into the incident is Ongoing.
