McCurtain County, Oklahoma (April 22, 2018) – Two girls were killed and several other people were injured in a two-car accident in McCurtain County Friday night, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.

The collision happened at around 10:20 p.m. Friday, April 20 on U.S. 259, about three miles north of Broken Bow.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Philip McCleery, 78, of Waco, Texas, was operating a van northbound on U.S. 259 when the van tried to turn onto a private driveway and it was hit by a pickup that was heading southbound on the highway.

Two girls, ages 11 and 16, both from Tulsa, who were passengers in the van, were transported to an Idabel hospital where they later succumbed to their injuries. Three other occupants, Leah Shrinivas, 46, of Tulsa, Joyce McCleery, 78, of Waco, Texas, and a 16-year-old boy, were transported by air ambulance to hospitals with unknown injuries.

McCleery was taken to an Idabel hospital with unknown injuries. The pickup’s driver, Henry Leibermann, 26, of Broken Bow, and a 7-year-old boy, a passenger in the van, were transported to the hospital, treated for their injuries and released.

All the involved parties were wearing seatbelts in both vehicles.

The names of the deceased have not been released pending identification and notification of family.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.
