At around 4 PM, a 23 year old woman was involved in a head on collision with a big rig truck that resulted in her death. Her passenger was also injured, but not fatally. She went to the hospital and was given treatment for her injuries.
Videos of the wreckage detail horrifying pictures of a mangled sedan before a large big rig truck, and one wonders how it is that anybody walked away from the scene alive.
The accident occurred when one big rig was stopped in the turning lane and was side-swiped by the sedan. That caused the driver to lose all control of her vehicle and was stopped with oncoming traffic headed toward her. It was at this point that she collided, head-on, with a big rig that was traveling full speed.
The authorities have suggested the possibility that upon the collision with the first big rig, it is possible that the driver was using her cell phone. She was distracted for just a second, and that was enough to cause the accident. Texting and driving seems to have caused her death and the injury of her friend.
When the fire department arrived, they found the passenger (a young teenager) trapped inside of the vehicle with the corpse of her friend. It took a lot of power to extract her safely.
