SYLMAR, Calif. – A person died in fatal crash involving 18-wheeler and other vehicles on 210 Freeway that delayed traffic in Sylmar around 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
The deadly collision occurred on 210 Freeway transition westbound to the 5 Freeway headed northbound in Sylmar during rush hour.
The fatal crashed involved an 18-wheeler and at least three other vehicles. Witnesses to the scene saw the 18-wheeler jackhammer and slam into one of the vehicles driving on the freeway.
The California Highway Patrol, Los Angeles Fire Department and several paramedics are on the scene.
One person confirmed dead, according an official from the California Highway Patrol. The victim’s identity has not been released to the public.
Investigators are reviewing the fatal scene to determine the cause of the multiple vehicle pileup on the freeway.
Los Angeles City Fire Department arrived on the scene to offer assistance but was unable to revive the victim.
Authorities are diverting traffic while the investigation takes place and they wait for the coroner to arrive to the scene.
Traffic in the area has backed up on the 210 Freeway near the Newhall Pass area.
