One person was killed after crashing a car into a stopped tractor-trailer along the northbound Interstate 5 truck route near Santa Clarita. Emergency responders report the accident happened about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Highway 14 connector lane just south of the Highway 14 truck lanes.
California Highway Patrol Officer Eric Preissman said a black Toyota sedan struck the rear of a big rig and became lodged beneath it. Preissman confirmed that the sedan driver was killed. He said “The party became trapped inside the car, and that will be our fatal victim.” The car’s driver was the only occupant. There were no reports of any other injuries.
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office was called in to investigate.
The northbound I-5 truck lanes were closed for several hours as emergency crews worked at the scene. Preissman said the truck lane traffic was diverted onto the primary lanes of I-5 until the truck lanes reopened just after noon.
