A search for a hit and run semi-truck driver is underway, for its alleged involvement in a fatal crash, early Saturday morning, in Vernon, California. Police and rescue units arriving at the scene of the accident, Santa Fe Avenue near the 37th Street, shortly after 3 am, found a pickup truck, wedged underneath the semi-truck’s trailer, with two men trapped inside.
On-scene investigators believe the semi-trick and trailer ran a red traffic signal, and hit the pickup truck. With the truck wedged underneath the trailer, the driver unhooked the cab portion, and sped away before police, and rescue units arrived.
Paramedics transported the pickup driver to USC Medical Center, where he is in critical condition. The pickup truck passenger died at the scene of the accident. According to a police statement, the semi-truck hit another vehicle near Soto Avenue and 37th Street, before running the signal at Santa Fe Avenue.
Police did not release the name of the deceased individual pending notification of next of kin.
