Pleasanton – Deadly big-rig crash on 57 leaves one man dead; snarled freeway traffic overnight

A fatal vehicle crash occurred at on Interstate Highway 580 and was reported at approximately 5:55 am. The accident happened to the West of Hopyard Road in Pleasanton and resulted in one death. According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash involved a total of six vehicles including the semi truck.

Officials stated that of the six vehicles involved, at least three became engulfed in flames as a result of the crash. At this time, no additional information on the status of other passengers is known aside from the one fatality. After the accident, many lanes were closed by responding officers for the California Highway Patrol.

Drivers were instructed to use the express lane on the interstate highway. This was the procedure for approximately three hours while the scene was investigated and the roadway cleared. As of 9:07 am the same morning as the accident, all lanes on the interstate were reopened to traffic. Information as to the identity of the driver and the cause of the accident is not yet available.
