One woman and two men died in a fatal car crash that began with freeway racing on I-5 and ended in a blaze.
California Highway Patrol reported that the accident happened just after midnight in the southbound lane of I-5 at Garfield Avenue. Dealio Lockhart, 35, was arrested for vehicular manslaughter charges while CHP searches for a second driver suspected of racing alongside Lockhart. The suspects were believed to be going approximately 85 to 90 mph when Lockhart tried to avoid a collision with a slower vehicle by hitting his brakes.
Lockhart then lost control of his Dodge Challenger, striking a UPS truck and sending it airborne. In turn, the UPS truck fatally struck a gray Nissan. The semi-truck then crossed the divider, striking six northbound vehicles before bursting into flames.
The driver of the UPS truck was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities. He was identified as Richard Scott Treadway of Mira Loma and had been with UPS for 30 years.
